PDA Screen Protectors.com introduces Generation II
New Screen Protectors look great, resist scratching
KELOWNA, BC (Special) - A Kelowna businessman has a new screen protector for today's Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). It not only looks great, but more importantly, its high-tech finish resists scratching.
John Salazar began selling screen protectors to the world when he
established www.pdaScreenProtectors.com (PDASPC) in April of 2001. Its mission was to provide the visually clearest, and most affordable screen protectors to PDA users around the globe. The venture continues to be highly successful.
John said that the original material used for PDASPC screen protectors has an antistatic coating that prevents the film from adhering to the screen-something that makes a dark, wet-looking blotch. Because this coating is on both sides, it eventually becomes scratched on the topside with use by a stylus. While the scratches are all but invisible when the PDA is in use, they are visible when the unit is turned off. Even though the protector continues to protect the screen, John wanted to source a more resilient material.
He wanted something that was just as visually clear, wouldn't tack onto the screen, and would resist scratching. After contacting countless plastic/film manufacturers, obtaining samples and testing every kind of material available, John came to the conclusion that such a material wasn't available. It would have to be custom-manufactured to PDASPC specifications, and tested over time.
PDASPC worked with industry specialists to create a new, hi-tech material that meets the objectives of superior clarity, with resistance to tacking and scratching. This cutting-edge material stands up to normal use and looks great for a very long time - at least 100 times longer than the original antistatic material.
"Our goal is to eliminate worry about screen protection once and for all," said John. "The installed screen protector is practically invisible, and the screen looks clear and sharp all the time. With normal use of the stylus, it should remain scratch-free, and last indefinitely."
Most screen protectors on the market have a 'glare-reduced' finish, which simply breaks-up and scatters the surface reflection. Holding a
'glare-reduced' protector up and looking through it blurs the view. The touch-screens used in PDAs are assembled in layers, with the touch-surface on top, and the image-surface further below. This space allows the light coming from the image-surface to flare before going through the screen protector. If this flared light is then scattered, the result is reduced contrast, which John says, "makes the screen look hazy. just lay both types of protectors side-by-side over the screen, and the choice is 'clear'."
PDASPC has become famous for its visually clear screen protectors, price and service. "When we opened, we weren't sure which type of brand/model of PDA people had, so we started with a fairly generic size, and began to cut for specific PDAs as requests came in."
The list grows every time someone requests protection for a different PDA. Currently, PDASPC is supporting more than 30 different models, and has customers in 37 countries around the world, including each of the 50 US states. The original screen protectors sell by the dozen (12-pack), the first pack costs US$9.95, and each additional 12-pack is only US$5 each.
The new "G2" screen protectors sell for US$8.95 for the first one;
additional screen protectors cost only US$4.95 each. Existing customers can upgrade to the G2 screen protector for a reduced price until March 31, 2002.
