Palm OS users can now email handwritten notes and drawings from
virtually anywhere
Sunnyvale, Calif. - May 21, 2002 - The Pen&Internet(tm) division of
Parascript(r) today announced wireless connectivity for its riteMail(tm)application on Palm Powered products. riteMail (www.ritemail.net) now takes advantage of all wireless connection methods for Palm OS based products, whether through wireless modems, Palm OS smartphones, 802.11 access points, or data transfer between Bluetooth-enabled Palm Powered products and Bluetooth-enabled phones or desktops.
riteMail is an electronic ink email application that allows users to
create and send their own handwritten notes and drawings - to any email address, in any language. In addition to being able to use a HotSync operation to send and receive riteMail messages, this latest version of riteMail works over direct wireless connection that is both faster and more bandwidth-friendly. It supports all popular email protocols: SMTP, POP3 and IMAP. To deliver handwritten messages across all desktop or mobile platforms, Palm Powered product users can take advantage of the XML and Java-based riteMail service run by Pen&Internet.
riteMail employs a high-quality electronic ink rendering engine and an easy-to-use, powerful UI. Pen&Internet's riteShape(tm) technology,
included in riteMail, enables efficient and natural charting capability and instantly transforms freehand drawn shapes into perfect ovals, rectangles, triangles, arrows and other common figures. riteMail is fully language-independent and is being used in more than 35 languages in 68 countries worldwide.
"This is another important step in wirelessly enabling mobile users of Palm OS based handhelds and smartphones," said Gabriel
Acosta-Mikulasek, senior director of Platform Development Services at PalmSource, Inc. "By enabling our wirelessly enabled Palm OS users to draw and handwrite their email messages, riteMail makes a very good addition to the breadth of Palm OS applications. It's another excellent example of the innovative solutions being developed by the Palm Economy."
"We are seeing an increasing need for immediate wireless connectivity in all areas," said Leonid Kitainik, general manager of Pen&Internet. "New features we've added to riteMail allow people to connect with others whenever they want, in any language, and in their own personal style."
