Replay Radio

As I was sitting here writing this review, I wanted to hear the recent news, see how the world was doing. Not having a pocket radio with me, I looked at my Pocket PC, and turned on Replay Radio. I had recorded a local news station earlier today, so I just clicked play, and I heard the news and the weather for today, which saved me from getting stuck in the rain. This is a great program.

Replay Radio allows you to listen to radio programs from virtually any place in the world. It even allows you to record yourself, if you have some need to do so. It?s incredibility lies not in its ability to record the radio and then play it back on your Pocket PC, but in its ability to save the program, music, or whatever you recorded in a very small mp3 file. For example, a one-hour program can take up only 7 megabytes of space on your PDA. Of course, that would be at a lower quality, but even at low quality, you still get a good reception.

It?s also pretty flexible. When you Add A Show, you can select either a station or a specific talk show or program to listen to. You can then choose at what time you want to record.

When I first installed it on my laptop running Windows XP, it told me that there was a driver error. After talking with Applian, the developers of this application, I got the problem straitened out. Another problem that I encountered is that it can?t record in the background. In other words, if you want Replay Radio to record a scheduled show for you, you have to keep it running until you?re done recording. You can?t exit and still have it record.

Replay Radio is a great program. I found it quite similar to those digital TV recorders - TiVo(tm) and others, which can pause live TV, and allow you to watch programs later. In conclusion, if you listen to the radio a lot, and yet have to frequently miss programs due to appointments and such, this is the program for you.
